After killing Cell, Gohan and the others return to Kami’s Lookout. Meanwhile, Mr. Satan boasts that he killed Cell, instead of Gohan. The public celebrates Mr. Satan’s victory. Meanwhile, Dende heals Gohan. Piccolo convinces Dende to summon Shenron. He uses the first wish to revive everyone killed in the Cell Games, including Trunks. Yamcha gives his second wish to revive Goku. However, Shenron reveals that Goku has been brought back to life once, therefore, that wish cannot be granted. The warriors suggest they bring Porunga from Namek, but Goku contacts the warriors from the Other World. Goku has decided to remain in the Other World. Krillin gives his second wish to remove the bombs from the Androids, and succeeds. Android #18 declines Krillin’s offer to join the team and leaves. The four Z Warriors leave Kami’s Lookout to celebrate Goku’s life. Chi-Chi grieves over Goku’s loss. Trunks bids farewell to everyone and departs for the future. Gohan smiles at Goku’s image in the sky.

Gohan can’t help but feel helpless in front of the newly revitalized Cell. However, some words of encouragement from the heavens give Gohan the strength to fire one last kamehameha.

Cell has been driven to his breaking point, willing to detonate himself to destroy the rest of the planet. Gohan is at odds with himself as to what to do until his father steps in one last time to help.

Cell finally unleashes his full power against Gohan, but even at maximum strength his attacks have no effect on the Super Saiyan 2. After being easily bested in battle, Cell attempts to destroy Gohan and the Earth with a giant Kamehameha, but Gohan produces an even larger wave and deflects the attack with ease. As the rest of the fighters predict an easy victory, Goku recalls that even in the Room of Spirit and Time, Gohan displayed strength far beyond that of a normal Super Saiyan. He then tells Gohan to deliver the finishing blow to Cell, but Gohan insists that Cell must suffer first. Cell then utilises his bulked-up transformation, but the increase in muscle mass lowers his speed greatly and as a result none of his attacks connect with Gohan – who counters with a single blow to the stomach, causing Cell to regurgitate Android 18 and revert back to his semi-perfect form. As the fighters assume that this means victory for Gohan, Cell’s body begins to expand to a gigantic size.

After witnessing the death of Android 16 at the hands of Cell, Gohan’s anger is ignited in all its fury, causing him to ascend to the Super Saiyan 2 level. Subsequent to this, Gohan effortlessly destroys the Cell Jr.’s, saving the lives of his wounded friends in the process. He then throws the Senzu beans to Trunks, having swiftly obtained them from Cell earlier. With the Z Fighters rejuvenated, Gohan now focuses his attention on Cell, and from the onset of the battle it is clear that Gohan holds the advantage.

Gohan’s reluctance reaches it’s limit, and #16 asks Mr Satan to carry him over to Gohan to talk to him. #16 explains to Gohan what to fight for, and that it is okay to unleash his anger to save those that he loves. After hearing his words of encouragement, Cell takes his foot and crushes #16’s head. Seeing this is ultimately the last straw for Gohan, who finally releases his rage and ascends to the Super Saiyan 2 level. Gohan then turns his attention to the Cell Jr.s, taking them out one-by-one.

Goku makes the decision to forfeit his match, leaving the fate of the entire Earth to his reluctant son – Gohan, confident that he has surpassed everyone in strength, Cell included.

The match between Goku and Cell nears a close, Goku finishing it off with a surprising decision that may cost him dearly.

Goku shows the fruits of his training, giving everything he has to fight Cell who wants nothing more than a good tournament between him and every willing fighter.
